How do I increase email storage limits?

Overview

Email storage limits control how much space your mailbox can use before it stops receiving new messages. If your inbox is full, emails may bounce or fail to arrive.

This guide explains how to manage and increase email storage limits in your hosting account.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Log in to your control panel

  • Open your hosting control panel
  • Sign in with your account credentials

2. Go to Email Accounts

  • Navigate to Email Management
  • Click Email Accounts
  • Select the mailbox you want to modify

3. Check current storage usage

  • View current quota usage
  • Check how close the mailbox is to its limit

4. Increase mailbox size

If your plan allows it:

  • Click Edit / Modify Account
  • Find Storage Quota / Mailbox Size
  • Increase the limit (e.g. from 1GB → 2GB or higher)
  • Save changes

5. Clean up existing emails (recommended)

If storage is full, also:

  • Delete large emails with attachments
  • Empty Trash / Junk folders
  • Archive old emails locally using an email client

Important Notes

  • Some hosting plans have fixed email limits and cannot be increased beyond a maximum
  • Increasing quota does not remove existing emails
  • IMAP accounts sync storage usage across all devices
  • Large attachments often consume most mailbox space

Common Issues & Fixes

Cannot increase storage limit

  • Your hosting plan may have a fixed email quota
  • Contact support to check upgrade options

Emails still not arriving after increasing limit

  • Check spam/junk folders
  • Ensure mailbox is no longer full
  • Verify DNS email authentication (SPF/DKIM)

Storage still shows full after deleting emails

  • Empty Trash and Junk folders
  • Wait a few minutes for usage to update
  • Refresh email account statistics
