How do I connect my domain from another provider?

Overview

If your domain is registered with another provider, you can still use it with our hosting by updating either your nameservers or your DNS records. The most common method is updating nameservers, as it allows us to manage everything for you.

Option 1 – Update Nameservers (Recommended)

This is the simplest and most reliable method.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Log in to your domain registrar (where you bought your domain)
  2. Find DNS / Nameserver settings
  3. Replace existing nameservers with:
  • ns1.websitehosts.uk
  • ns2.websitehosts.uk
  1. Save your changes

What happens next?

  • Your domain will start pointing to our hosting
  • Website and email services will begin working
  • Changes can take 24–48 hours to fully propagate

Option 2 – Point DNS Records Manually (Advanced)

If you prefer to keep your DNS managed elsewhere:

You will need to update:

  • A Record → point to your hosting server IP
  • MX Records → for email routing
  • CNAME Records → for www or subdomains

Important Notes

  • Nameserver changes give us full control of DNS (recommended for most users)
  • DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to fully update worldwide
  • Do not mix old and new nameservers

Common Issues & Fixes

Website not loading after update

  • Wait for DNS propagation
  • Double-check nameservers were entered correctly

Email not working

  • Ensure MX records are correctly configured (if not using our nameservers)

Domain still showing old site

  • Clear browser cache
  • Check propagation status
